The course aims to meet the needs of students who may have a limited background in science by:
- providing an introduction to the foundations of a range of science disciplines
- providing opportunities to acquire knowledge, attitudes and skills in a range of basic physical, computational, mathematical, earth and life sciences;
- introducing students to scientific method through a range of disciplines
- providing graduates with core knowledge in at least two science disciplines
- developing academic and scientific skills to allow students to articulate with confidence into a Bachelors Degree for further in-depth study
The Associate Degree in Science is a multidisciplined degree allowing students to select studies from the following areas:
- Aquaculture (L)
- Biochemistry (H)
- Chemistry (H)
- Computer science (H,L)
- Geography and environmental studies (H,L,CC#)
- Geology (earth sciences) (H)
- Mathematics (H)
- Microbiology (H)
- Physics (H)
- Plant science (H)
- Psychology (H,L,CC#)
- Zoology (H)
# limited range of units after first year
Several foundation units - Chemistry, Computer Applications, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics - form the first stage of the Associate Degree. A number of these foundation units may also be taken by students who wish to obtain specific specific subject or entry pre-requisites for other degree programs.
