The Associate Degree in Applied Science (Marine Environment) provides an innovative translational science approach to learning about the marine environment in Australia. This translational science approach integrates the natural sciences with practical applications that help society to solve real-world problems in the marine environment.
This course offers broad introductory exposure to the areas of natural sciences, social sciences, technology and environmental management, together with electives including: environmental economics, policy and law. This program provides an alternative pathway to university and is appropriate for those who do not satisfy the entry requirements of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Environment). Students complete a combination of Foundation Units, and a range of Introductory and Intermediate Units selected from two of five exciting specialisations: Aquaculture, Marine Conservation, Fisheries Management, Aquatic Science or Aquatic Biology.

Special Requirements

Students meeting the General Entry Requirements may enter the course. Entry can be through a number of pathways:
- TCE: satisfactory achievement (SA) or better in a minimum of four pre-tertiary subjects preferably with English, Mathematics or a Science subject.
- Students completing VET/TAFE certificate III or higher.
- Provision of a supporting statement outlining evidence of capacity to succeed.

Further study options
|
Students successfully completing the Associate Degree in Applied Science (Marine Environment) are eligible to articulate into the Bachelor of Applied Science (Marine Environment). Up to three semesters’ credit will be awarded towards the Bachelor degree.

Graduates of the Associate Degree (Marine Environment) will be well-equipped to undertake entry level positions within a variety of marine or maritime sectors including: conservation and environmental management, fisheries and aquaculture production, marine tourism, non-governmental organisations, regulatory and policy organisations, and all levels of government (local to federal).
