Study Areas

Special Requirements

Completion of the Advanced Diploma of Nautical Science or other equivalent qualifications or experience in the maritime industry (such as Master Class 2 Certificate of Competency).

Further study options

The Bachelor of Applied Science (Maritime Operations) will articulate directly into a number of post graduate courses that are offered by the National Centre for Ports and Shipping in the area of Maritime Logistics and Management and Ports and Terminal Management.

Applicants holding an Advanced Diploma or equivalent who are able to demonstrate significant industrial and/or seatime experience may also elect to articulate directly into the postgraduate courses referred to above.

Career opportunities

The articulated structure of this degree incorporates the Diploma of Nautical Science and the Advanced Diploma of Nautical Science. Because seafarer education is regulated to an international standard, students holding STCW95 certificates of competency (as issued by AMSA or an equivalent overseas regulator) will be able to enter deck programmes with full credit for all units up to the level of the certificate of competency held. For example, an applicant with an AMSA Certificate of Deck Watchkeeper will be able to enrol directly into the Advanced Diploma, whilst a certified Ship Master will be able to enrol directly into the degree.
