Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering) (23I)

Duration:

4 years

Location:

Launceston (Australian Maritime College)

Study Areas

The Bachelor of Engineering (Ocean Engineering) was developed to serve the needs of the Australian offshore, coastal engineering, and related industries by providing professional engineers specifically educated in the field. It is currently the only such undergraduate program in Australia. AMC makes use of its uniquely maritime focus and its wide variety of specialist facilities to produce graduates with a strong "hands on" approach to complement their theoretical studies, and endeavours to emphasise the novel aspects of ocean engineering associated with developments in deeper waters.

Special Requirements

Satisfactory completion of Year 12 (TCE, VCE, HSC or equivalent) with mid to upper level Mathematics and a Science subject (Physics or Chemistry recommended).

AMC will also consider applications from candidates who do not have the above qualifications for entry but who seek admission on basis of experience gained in industry or government organisations.

Further study options

Eligible students may enrol in a double degree, combining this degree with Naval Architecture or Marine and Offshore Systems. After completion of the BE (OceanEng) degree, students may apply for entry to the MPhil or PhD degree.

Career opportunities

The course prepares students for careers in offshore oil and gas engineering and design, construction and operation, as well as careers with engineering consultancy firms specialising in coastal engineering, port and harbour design and environmental marine engineering in general.
