The Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture - Co-operative Education) was developed to serve the needs of the Australian ship design, construction and related industries by providing professional engineers specifically educated in the field. AMC makes use of its uniquely maritime focus and its wide variety of specialist facilities to produce graduates with a strong "hands on" approach to complement their theoretical studies, and endeavours to emphasise aspects of naval architecture particularly suited to the high-speed and smaller craft industries. AMC graduates will ensure that Australia stays at the forefront of worldwide high-speed vessel technology.

In addition to the standard Bachelor of Engineerying (Naval Architecture), the Co-operative Education program provides students with an additional year of paid work placements in relevant workplaces.

Special Requirements

Satisfactory completion of Year 12 (TCE, VCE, HSC or equivalent) with middle to upper level Mathematics and a science subject (Physics or Chemistry recommended).

Students will normally need obtain a Credit Average through the BE degree course to be able to continue in the Co-operative Degree programme.

AMC will also consider applications from candidates who do not have the above qualifications for entry but who seek admission on basis of experience gained in industry or government organisations.

Career opportunities

The course prepares students for careers in the shipbuilding industry, high-speed ferry industry, marine consultancy firms and in government in areas of commercial shipping, transport policy and administration and in insurance sector.

The year of practical experience provided in the Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture - Co-operative Education) provides graduates with even more industry relevant work experience.
