Applicants are expected to meet the normal requirements set by the University for entry to degree courses.
International students need the standard UTAS English language requirements for Bachelor level entry.
There are additional requirements (audition and interview) for applicants wishing to undertake units in the ensemble/practical study or music technology majors:
- Performance students: prepare fifteen minutes of music to show skill, level of ability and musical tastes.
- Composition and Music Technology students: submit a folio of at least three recent compositions. Applicants are encouraged, strongly, to include recent recordings of the works submitted in the folio.
Through interview, the audition panel will assess the applicant's musical background and career aspirations.

The Bachelor of Musical Arts offered by the Conservatorium of Music in Hobart, provides the opportunity for students to enhance their musical skills, awareness and knowledge and also, through parallel study, to explore the possibilities of another discipline.
The degree is particularly well suited to students wishing to pursue careers in music technology, music journalism, music broadcasting, promotion and marketing or arts management. Bachelor of Musical Arts students will complete a major in music, a minor in music and four discipline electives. The remaining units of their degree may be taken as a major from another discipline offered at UTAS, for example: English, Journalism, Media and Communications; or Languages; or may comprise further study in music through a choice of music electives.
Students completing this course may be able to articulate into the Master of Teaching course specialising in Secondary Music Teaching.
