Professional development opportunties for teachers, school and administrative staff
HECS Scholarships
Whether you are just beginning your career in education, are an experienced teacher or work in an administrative capacity supporting Tasmania's education system, professional and personal development opportunities are an ideal way of keeping your knowledge and skills updated, as well as improving your career prospects.
Many people who return to study have other demands, like family and work. The good news is you can plan your course to suit your life. Most courses can be studied part-time, and some courses include options for off-campus study, such as print- or web-based distance education. Department of Education staff
UTAS, in collaboration with the Tasmanian Department of Education (DoE), has recently employed an initiative that offers HECS scholarships for university study to all levels (teaching, general and administrative) of DoE employees. All eligible staff will be entitled to a HECS scholarship up to the value of $2,170 per year, over 2009, 2010 and 2011. Click here for the DoE website and to download a copy of the brochure.
Independent and Catholic School staff
The HECS scholarship is also extended to staff of Tasmanian Independent or Catholic schools or colleges that have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Tasmania . Please check with your school/college for details of this agreement with UTAS. For a list of schools/colleges that have a current Memorandum of Understanding in place, and for further information about the HECS scholarship click here
On-Campus Professional Development Visits
Student Recruitment and Marketing run professional development sessions for senior secondary school staff across all UTAS campuses. These sessions are planned to address the existing interest areas of your staff, as well as introduce them to new and exciting disciplines at UTAS.
A typical session might involve tours of facilities, hands-on workshops, presentations by UTAS academics, and an opportunity to network and further develop relationships with UTAS staff. These sessions are a good way of learning more about the breadth of courses and the facilities at UTAS, and also an opportunity to further add to teaching staff's skills-set.
